Everything you ever wanted to know about…. Single Post Lifts

Interesting info, give it a read if Automotives is your thing….

GETECH Garage Equipment's avatarGETECH

A relatively new design to hit the market is the single post lift. There are essentially 2 variants of this type of lift.

1.       Single Post Maintenance Lift

This style is the same as a single post lift, but instead of drive-on ramps it has arms attached like a two post lift.

Storage: For the same reasons as a two post lift, these are terrible for storage. There is no oil drip protection and the vehicle’s suspension hangs down under its own weight.

Maintenance:  Under body access is partially blocked by the lifting arms, but otherwise these lifts offer the same advantages as a two post lift.

2.

Single Post Storage & Maintenance Lift

This is not the type you sometimes see in repair garages and tyre shops where the post comes out of the ground. Single post lifts have a single column on one side with arms that reach…

Wire Rope Winches- A Very Useful Tool

Wire rope winches, commonly referred to as winches, hand winches, electric winches and more are used in a number of applications as a lifting or pulling solution.

This article will help explain the different types of wire rope winch and how they can be used, in a follow up article I will go in depth in types of hand winches, types of electric winches, get it? Ok…

Image

Electric Wire Rope Winches are designed to run on a single phase or three phase power supply and can be used for lifting or pulling (dependant upon the style) electric winches take the effort out of operation with a simple wired pendant control or optional radio remote control. Simply press the command and the winch will carry it out.

ImageHand Winches are ideal for industrial or domestic purposes, affordable and easy to install/use. Hand winches require human interaction and cannot be automated or remote controlled. However they are much smaller and are appropriate for many applications that require small units in confined spaces or quiet operation, or simply where budgets are tight.

Industrial Winches are commonly fitted to davit cranes and various other applications in the industrial sector where pulling or lifting is required.

As you can see the capacity is easily increased with the cost effective addition.

Wire rope winches are often used when the direction of the rope needs to be changed with the addition of a sheave block, sheave blocks can be fixed to position the wire rope to feed horizontally but leave vertically making the hoist a lifting hoist without it being fixed vertically above the load. Wire rope sheaves are often used to increase the capacity of the hoist by creating a double reeving system explained in the image above.

Overhead Crane Accident- Always Service Your Crane

Three men were injured and one crushed to death by overhead crane accident in Arkansas Nuclear One Plant in April 2013.

This is ultimately the responsibility of the company who service the crane who have not been named.

Overhead Crane Collapse

It is important to correctly maintain your overhead crane in order to prevent breakdowns and unnecessary repairs and in some cases like this; fatal accidents.

On this occasion the gantry appears to have snapped, this could be due to a number of factors such as overload, poor engineering, poort maintenance etc.

Safety should never be compromised when lifting and handling heavy loads, UK law and LOLER require cranes to be serviced on a regular basis.

Fellows Stringer Cranes & Hoists- Still Alive!

Over the last few years there has been some confusion among the industry regarding Fellows Stringer Cranes & Hoists.

Image

Fellows Stringer has been operating in the overhead crane market for around 5 decades supplying various blue chip companies and acquiring several nuclear contracts.

When Fellows Stringer closed its main premises and was taken over by Kingsway Corporation it never ceased production of current products and is still operating to this day, mostly supplying spare parts to Overhead Cranes.

Crane Accidents- Russian Crane Collapse

Last month this crane collapsed about 2,000 miles away from Moscow in Russia. This rail mounted tower crane got caught up in some serious winds causing it to gain speed moving down the tracks and collapsing into a nine floor appartment block. Luckily nobody was injured however eight cars were smashed up in the process! This is a lesson to everyone in the lifting industry. Always take the necessary safety precautions (this includes checking the weather!) and risk assessment is vital.

Only in Russia would they continue to operate the other cranes after this had happend! (lol) It is suspected that the crane was not installed correctly- disastrous!

Types of Drum Lifters, Drum Lifting Attachments & Barrel Lifters

As we progress deeper into the material handling market we are adding more and more products to our website such as pallet trucks, sack trucks (coming soon) and not so recently; Drum Lifters, Barrel Lifters, Drum Lifting Attachments and general Drum Handling Equipment.

Our range is very versatile with solutions designed for removal of drums from pallets and simple drum dollies to more complex hydraulic drum handlers which are able to pick, lift, tip and rotate barrels and drums.

There are many Types of Drum Handling Equipment on todays market, but you want to be sure that you are getting something that has been fully certified to the relevant standards. This means: if you think you are getting an incredibly low deal you probably are buying an non-certified cheap import which if used in a business environment  should it fail and injure someone, there might be serious compensation on the companies behalf as law now requires all lifting and handling equipment to be inspected and certified to the relevant British standards.

Hydraulic Drum Trucks

These are easy to operate and can be used to lift and lower drums and barrels on and off pallets (if designed to do so) they can also tip and turn (again, if designed to do so).

Easy to use, simply push down on the pump which once clipped to the Drum will lift and hold the drum. The wheels and bars stabilise the load.
