Wire rope winches, commonly referred to as winches, hand winches, electric winches and more are used in a number of applications as a lifting or pulling solution.
This article will help explain the different types of wire rope winch and how they can be used, in a follow up article I will go in depth in types of hand winches, types of electric winches, get it? Ok…
Electric Wire Rope Winches are designed to run on a single phase or three phase power supply and can be used for lifting or pulling (dependant upon the style) electric winches take the effort out of operation with a simple wired pendant control or optional radio remote control. Simply press the command and the winch will carry it out.
Hand Winches are ideal for industrial or domestic purposes, affordable and easy to install/use. Hand winches require human interaction and cannot be automated or remote controlled. However they are much smaller and are appropriate for many applications that require small units in confined spaces or quiet operation, or simply where budgets are tight.
Industrial Winches are commonly fitted to davit cranes and various other applications in the industrial sector where pulling or lifting is required.
As you can see the capacity is easily increased with the cost effective addition.
Wire rope winches are often used when the direction of the rope needs to be changed with the addition of a sheave block, sheave blocks can be fixed to position the wire rope to feed horizontally but leave vertically making the hoist a lifting hoist without it being fixed vertically above the load. Wire rope sheaves are often used to increase the capacity of the hoist by creating a double reeving system explained in the image above.

Safety is always the highest priority when executing a heavy lift. Without correct risk assessment surrounding people maybe at high risk to a heavy load accidentally dropping on their head!
Generally speaking lifting equipment should be inspected every 6-12 months (different products require different inspection intervals) by a qualified lifting inspection officer/company. Gear should also be inspected for wear and tear or damage deeper than the surface, this should be done by the user before each lift.
Most companies that use lifting equipment these days have a system for storing test certificates or certificates of conformity. These are required for each item of lifting equipment by law. It shows that the item has been tested or inspected to the relevant standards with any noted defects listed. In the event of an accident this will become a valuable document, without one you run big risks. Each item of lifting gear will feature a serial number that will tie in with the certificate, copies are also usually held by manufacturers and can be traced using the serial number.
Lifting Equipment inspection has become a growing topic in todays market as health and safety laws are tightened and risk is reduced companies are treating inspection and maintenance very seriously in order to secure the safety of their employees.

Jib Cranes can become slightly confusing when it comes to making your first purchase as factory management it is your responsibility to ensure everything goes to plan, so reading this article will help you get to grips with Swing Jibs and ensure you pick the right one!
Firstly there is the type of Jib Crane, will you be floor mounting or wall mounting?
Donati Swing Jib Crane.
Types of Jib Cranes
Free Standing- When specifying a free standing jib crane the jib arm is supported by a floor mounted support, this is secured by chemical anchors that are fitted to the ground and base plate. These can be over-braced or Under-braced, if headroom issues are bound to occur (meaning you do not have enough room above the jib arm to fit the crane) under-braced ensures that the total height of the crane is no taller than the required hook path (height of lift).
Wall Mounted- The name is self explanatory, easily mounted to a wall using fixing stirrups or chemical resin anchors, giving more room on the floor of the production line. Additional height of lift can be achieved at a better cost without the need for tall columns for mounting.
Jib Cranes can have up to 360 degrees of manual or electric slew in order to efficiently and effectively reach material and lift up to 10 Tonnes. For more information and competitive quotations on Donati Swing Jib Cranes please visit Crane Handling.

Export plays a big part of our business at Lifting Equipment Store, we export large quantities of lifting equipment every month to various repeat customers around the globe.
One of the things I have commonly experienced when ordering goods from abroad is that the suppliers do not package their pallets securely. This can lead to damaged goods and even missing goods, not ensuring your goods could cost you more than you expect and even if you do insure them if they are not packed correctly some insurance policies will be void. Even when you order UK to UK the packaging would not suffice any longer than overnight.
This is where we come in, before goods are shipped abroad when purchased from us we ensure that our export consignments are re-packed in suitable containers for export featuring tripple thick cardboard (or wooden containers), ISPM 15 Heat treated pallets (metal is also optional), All packing is re-enforced and wrapped. Then the boxes (or box) is banded and strapped to the pallet to ensure full security, after that the box/container is wrapped for extra protection and security.
We go the extra mile and ensure that your consignment is fully labelled and accompanied with the correct documentation: Packing list, Commercial Invoice, Certificate of Origin, Etc.
Check out how we packed this consignment of Lifting Equipment below. In this we have 80 x Container Lifting Lugs (2 layers), 20 x 7 Tonne Bow Shackles (1 layer), 20 x 7 Tonne Dee Shackles (1 Layer), 10 x Yale height safety kits with carrying cases (1 layer and extra two boxes on top). Weighing in at just over 1000kg (1 Tonne). It’s like wrapping a giant Lifting Equipment Christmas present!!….
Camlok Container Lifting Lugs for Export to the Middle East
